Beat the Heat

Summer usually brings on happy feelings, right?

Once May passed and June arrived, we all breathed a sigh of relief as the tornado risk drastically dropped. And not only were we inside a lot in May due to crazy storms, but May also seemed particularly wet for us. The ground was completely saturated all the time, and as I'm sure you can imagine, it only took about 5 minutes with Henry outside for him to completely cover himself with mud.

So we were excited for June. A chance to enjoy the nicer weather without all the rain and mud.

Unfortunately, it took about 2 days for the temperatures to rise so much that we went from rainy-stormy-muddy-May to HOT-SUMMER.

I became grumpy. We couldn't even get a few nice days without scorching heat? Not cool, weather, NOT COOL.

In every sense of the word.

So rather than feeling completely stuck inside, we had to be creative in coming up with ways to succeed in the game known as Beat the Heat.

We have enjoyed the local Splash Pad, frequented the nearby sno cone truck, visited the library for various storytimes, and spent lots of time in water.

Adele got to participate in swimming lessons at the University of Oklahoma this summer. While it didn't miraculously make her love getting her face/head wet, she loved the time with her friend Reece!

We have spent a lot of time in our backyard as well, with David working to get our swingset put back together and the kids enjoying the outside toys.

We also visited the Sam Noble Natural History Museum for "Library Day". We spent a fun few hours doing crafts, playing in the Discovery Room, listening to storytime, and checking out all the exhibits. Fun times!

Adele is really interested in the fact that we 

have bones in our bodies, so seeing the 

dinosaur skeletons was "so cool" (in her words)

Henry was trapped in the stroller, but 

loved anything he could touch!

And Adele loved all the crafts!

And me, I've decided to Beat the Heat by turning some of my t-shirts that don't fit quite right into tank tops. (Thanks, Pinterest!) This was my experiment shirt, and it was so easy that it only took a short amount of my time during naps that I will be rummaging around in my closet for more shirts to convert!
